I remember with fondness these friends from the Young Israel: Paula and Gary Katz, Ruthy & Phyllis Gluckman.

I lived in Laurelton from 1952 until 1965 when I married Larry Kuskin, a graduate of AJHS in 1960. Served in Vietnam 68-69 (101st Airborne Division and Bronze Star Recipient). As I read about the reminiscences of others on this site: 132, 156, "squash" at the handball court, the LJC, Carmine's, Roma's garlic bread (God), the movie theater (which was an addiction on Saturdays, curiously nobody mentioned), the wonderland of Stanley's! Along with: Paul Weintraub, "Logi" Trepper, Barry Becker (a genius/peter pan who dressed as Batman, in his self-made costume and took 'competing' Robins out at night to roam alleys and garage rooftops), John Ploss, Mike Cohen, and others. My family moved to Laurelton in 1955 and I lived at 131-45 227 Street until I moved away in 1964. It would be nice to hear from some of my old friends and see what road they traveled in life. On our street we had Barbara and Robert Malkin, Neal Dreznin, David Kaback, David Scher, my family (Reba, Jay and Hope Harris) and more.

My neighbors were Linda Disimone, Michael Fierstein, Ronny Sasofsky, Mitchell Karlin, Arthur and Carol Mack, Andrea Wolpe, Elyse Goldstein - boy so many memories. Lived in Laurelton with my family and brother Martin (on the corner of 232nd St. Attended PS 156, JHS 59 and graduated AJHS in 1963. Married to Shep Peskoff who lived at 133-11 225th St. I remember Laurelton being a wonderful place to grow up. My kids lived a half a mile and had to take the bus. I became a grandmother this year and fell in love again with sweet Julianna, my son, Eric's daughter. In 1975 I was transferred to San Francisco by my company and moved to Sonoma County in 1991. Our home was located directly across from PS 176 and my neighbors included, the Dawsons, the Whites, the Persons, Russells and the Filippis(on 238th Street behind us.)We had the best childhood ever and growing up in Cambria Heights/Laurelton was terrific and safe. I then moved to Valley Stream when I was 18..to believe I was ever 18. There was Alan Goldman "gompers", Mark Kessler "count" (Mark got the nick name "count" because he couldn't! We have been living in Dix Hills/Melville since 1974. Recently moved to Carbondale, CO, a short drive to magnificent skiing and summer music festival in Aspen. Still keep in touch with many who never graduated from PS 156 but transferred to JHS 59, and then went on to Jackson. After JHS 59 I went to M&A and lost touch with all my school friends (Madelyn Berman, Maxine Weinstein, Judi Schoenfeld, Margery Lesk, Frankie Fuchs, Jerry Solomon, Howie Polera). Through this site, I hope to connect and share stories and memories of a different time in all of our lives and sense of community. Gosh I know I'm going to leave someone out but I haven't talked or seen Pam Morris, Joan Prussan, Gail Friedman etc (since a reunion mega years ago)and I miss you! Marty Rosenthal, Alan Nodelman (I did have dinner with you not too long ago,it was great but we lost touch again), Billy and Barry Rost. Jackson was great and we were all very involved in Sing-- Happy to hear from others. We both graduated from Queens College in 19 respectively. I lived in 233rd Street and then moved to Francis Lewis Blvd. We were 10 guys who called themselves the "big 10". We were married in 1967 and have 2 beautiful married daughters, 2 handsome sons-in-law and 5 gorgeous grandkids. It seems like yesterday I was in high school and now my granddaughter is starting next year. We played a lot in the schoolyard, as well as punchball, stoopball, and I Declare War on our own street. I just found out about this site from my sister Doree. Closest friends of mine were Gary Goldman who sadly passed away in May of 1997. I am a CPA who teaches at a community college and is a force in local theater. What a hoot, seeing so many names of so many "kids" I grew up with, seeing them in my mind's eye as they were then and thinking about so many more whose names I do not see and having it prompt so many memories of our "small town inside the big city". I remember Lil Eds, Capri, 4 Star Bakery and the movie house. Hard to believe at times that we were situated in NYC. In between I accumulated a wealth of fond memories growing up in Laurelton too numerous to list but probably very similar to others who are on this site. Life has taken many turns since High School for all of us. One year later I too moved out to Phoenix and have been here ever since. Now I have to live for another 30 years to enjoy it :-). I see many familiar names - Arnie Cohen, Bob Kazin, Tom Burke, Iris Schwartz. I lived out of the country for l0 years, reside in Santa Fe, am on the road a good portion of the time as a travel journalist and would love--after all the peregrinations--to pick up the thread of connection. Ronald Jacoby lived next store, Paul Lapner a few doors down. ), Ronnie Zipes, Lee Schoichet - Lee and I are still best friends almost 50 years later. I was told of this site by Ellen Skolnick (Schiller) and I am recognizing so many names. Currently spending half my time in Florida and the other half in Maryland.
